Great Yorkshire Way wins 2017 Planning Award for Promoting Economic Growth

22. 06. 2017

The Great Yorkshire Way, which links Verdion’s £500 million iPort scheme to the M18, has been announced winner of the Award for Promoting Economic Growth at the 2017 Planning Awards.

Jo Miller, Chief Executive of Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council accepted the award on behalf of the council at a ceremony that took place on June 21st at the Savoy Hotel, London.  The Planning Awards, run by Planning Magazine, celebrate excellence in planning and place-making across a range of categories.

Known formally as the Finnington and Rossington Regeneration Route Scheme (FARRRS), the Great Yorkshire Way is a new highway for Doncaster. It was constructed to enable the development of the 6 million sqft iPort logistics scheme, which will incorporate a 35 acre strategic rail freight terminal and deliver jobs to the region. Phase One, which opened in February 2016, connects iPort to the M18 at Junction 3 and to Doncaster Sheffield Airport, with another link into the village of Rossington.

Verdion was one of the funding partners for the Great Yorkshire Way, alongside the Government’s Regional Growth Fund and Growing Places Fun, Doncaster Council corporate resources, and the Sheffield City Region Transport Strategy.

Phase Two, once constructed, will extend the Great Yorkshire Way, creating a direct link from Doncaster Sheffield Airport to the M18.
